The Hamburger Abendblatt writes:
"Hamburger Hof: The plan is that after demolition, an 'icon will shine in new splendour.' The redevelopment of one of the city's best-known building complexes is to start in just a few weeks. Construction commences on 3 March. We refer, of course, to the Hamburger Hof, which extends from Jungfernstieg to the Große Bleichen and Poststraße."
The NDR reminds:
"140 years ago, the Hamburger Hof was probably the most luxurious hotel in the city. Kings of England, Denmark and Thailand would stay here on their visits to Hamburg. The glamourous balls held here were legendary. Fire destroyed the hotel in 1917. After World War II the Hamburger Hof was converted into a mercantile building, and then in the 1970s into an office building with a shopping passage. But business dropped off in the wake of the Corona pandemic. The owners have been planning the redevelopment for six years, and it is now finally becoming a reality."
Sat.1 Regional says:
"The Hamburger Hof on Jungfernstieg, to date primarily a shopping passage, is to be completely gutted and rebuilt. What emerges is to revitalise the iner city. After five years of preparations, this major project is now set to launch. The responsible parties presented the various construction measures and future use concepts to the public on Wednesday."
The Welt am Sonntag writes:
"New concept in top location. There is a building site in the centre of Hamburg's inner city: the Hamburger Hof, the most distinctive sandstone building on Jungfernstieg, is getting a revamp. Yet another chapter in the notable history of construction at this location."
The Hamburger Morgenpost reports:
"The Hamburger Hof on Jungfernstieg has been a thorn in the city's side for years. From the outside the building looks impressive and historic, but if you stray into the shopping passage, you feel transported to a dying labyrinth. It became known in June of last year that investor Munich Re was planning to fully redevelop the Hof, and the city, investor and architect have now jointly made the details public."
The SH:Z says:
"Where kings found repose: Hamburger Hof on Jungfernstieg is being rebuilt. A good 180 years ago, it was Germany's first ever shopping passage. The shopping mall it is today has become outdated. Time to give the prominent venue a facelift."
